All winners of The Game Awards 2019, the Oscars of games
The Game Awards, known as “The Oscars of Gaming”, is the largest annual awards ceremony in electronic entertainment, highlighting newcomers, professionals and industry figures.
The event, created by presenter Geoff Keighley, still serves as a stage for exclusive reveals, music shows and other surprises.
The 2019 edition of The Game Awards was no different, with no fewer than 29 award categories including nominations such as Best eSports Player, Best Soundtrack and Game of the Year.
The last edition had 29 award categories
Celebrities such as Norman Reedus and Reggie Fils Aime (former director of Nintendo of America) attended the presentation, as did the band Green Day and other artists.
During the event we also got a first look at the look of the new Xbox Series X, Microsoft’s new generation console that will battle with Sony’s PlayStation 5.

Game of the Year Category
Nominated games:
- control
- death stranding
- Resident Evil 2 (2019)
- Sekiro: Shadows die twice
- Super Smash Bros Ultimate
- The Outer Worlds
Game Winner:
- Sekiro: Shadows die twice
Sekiro has exceeded expectations, beating very famous names head-on. Some of the main competitors were Control (produced by Remedy Software), Death Stranding (by Hideo Kojima) and Resident Evil 2, a remake of the Capcom game that even outsold the original.
Sekiro and its importance compared to other games
The surprise of seeing Sekiro win is mainly due to the fact that it is a difficult game that requires dedication and learning from the players. This bodes well for more companies to invest in games with precise commands, capable of testing players’ skills.
